Clinical Research Unit comprises of:

  • Outpatient department (OPD)
  • Inpatient department (IPD)
  • Clinical Laboratories (Biochemistry Lab, Pathology Lab & Radiology section)
  • Special health programs

OPD: is functional in this institute since 1983 to provide treatment for various ailments and to refer patients for clinical research program. The RRIUM has well-equipped 3 OPDs and well established dispensary. The special OPD provides research medicines to patients of different disease viz., rheumatoid arthritis, bronchial asthma, vitiligo, psoriasis etc. Apart from this RRIUM runs Geriatric OPD once in a week which provides concessional OPD ticket, free medicine and investigations to patients of above 60 years of age. Further Maternal and Child Care OPD is being run twice a week.

IPD: The IPD is emerging as a major attraction at national level for providing the treatment to various disease including musculoskeletal and dermatological ailments. The IPD presently accommodates 40 patients and shall soon be up-graded to 75 beds. The IPD has separate Male ward, Female ward and well established IPD dispensary. Different facilities are provided to the patients in IPD like Munzij va Mushil Unani therapy is given for the treatment of various ailments and different types of regimenal therapies like cupping, fomentation and massage are available.

Clinical Laboratories section:

The Clinical Laboratories section of this institute comprises: Biochemistry lab, Pathology lab and Radiology section. The clinical lab section supports patient care, research programs and Post graduation teaching program. The Biochemistry lab provides patient care in the form of baseline biochemical tests and novel blood biomarker analysis etc to the research, outdoor and inpatients of the institute. Further biochemistry lab is involved in conducting practical classes of PG students of Unani Medicine (Moalajat). The Pathology lab carries out many tests which include CBC, Urine examination, Skin scrapping test and many more. The biochemistry and pathology labs are fully automated and quality control is strictly implemented for accurate results. The Radiology section carries out X-ray and ECG to all the research, outdoor and inpatients of the institute and other referral subjects. The radiology section is in process of registering with AERB as per NABH guidelines.

Special health programs:

RRIUM runs various special health programs like Mobile Clinical Research Program and School Health program. Mobile clinical research program is intended at providing free Unani treatment to the patients in rural areas, urban slums and ST areas. This program is covered under the Govt. scheme of special component plan (SCP), now called as Tribal Sub-plan (TSP) for scheduled tribes. The researchers of our institute make door-to-door surveys in these areas mainly to register research cases of different ailments. School Health program is done to raise health status of school children and reduce morbidity rate among them, through healthcare and health education. Under this program, some of the primary/secondary schools falling under coverage of the mobile wings are adopted and the students suffering from any ailment are treated with the Unani medicines.
