Mobile Clinical Research Programme
The mobile Clinical Research programme is initiated with goal to provide free Unani treatment to the patients in rural areas, urban slums, schedule caste (SC) and schedule tribe (ST) areas. Besides, the aim is to reduce the disease liability in the society by creating health awareness among them. The Researchers of our Institute make door-to-door surveys in these areas mainly to register Research cases of different ailments. Research cases of Nephrolethiasis, Hypertension, URTI, UTI, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Vitiligo and Bronchial Asthma were referred to the Institute for further evaluation. The Researchers also provide free Unani medical treatment to ailing people at their doorsteps and thus serve as a potential source of healthcare delivery to the masses. Besides, awareness is also created on preventive, promotive and curative health aspects through group lectures, organizing special health camps and health exhibitions. Under this programme more than 3 lakh patients were provided free treatment since inception.
School Health Programme
The School Health Programme is another important part of the mobile Clinical Research Programme. The objective of this programme is to raise health status of school children and reduce morbidity rate among them, through healthcare and health education. Under this programme, some of the primary/secondary schools falling under coverage of the mobile wings are adopted. A baseline health check-up of school children is conducted and
Those found suffering from any ailment are treated with the Unani medicines. Thereafter, health education is provided to them through lectures on different preventive, promotive and curative health aspects. The children are also educated about the potentialities of the commonly available plants in their vicinity for the management of different diseases. Specific lectures are given on oral hygiene, cleanliness of body and environment, safe drinking water, nutrition, balanced diet. The effort of creating awareness resulted in reduction of incidence of diseases such as scabies, worm infestation, hair lice, boils, conjunctivitis which were common in children. This programme was started in the year 1986 and since then about 37000 (thirty-seven thousand) school children have been treated during 103 visits. About 88 schools have been covered under this programme.
Tribal Sub-Plan
Initiative by CCRUM (2022–2024)
In 2022, the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) launched a mobile healthcare program under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) to benefit the tribal population of Jammu & Kashmir. This initiative aims to ensure early disease detection, timely intervention, and reduction in mortality, morbidity, and disability among underserved tribal communities. Additionally, health-based literature distribution and awareness lectures on common diseases, hygiene, and healthy lifestyle practices form an integral part of the program.
The program is spearheaded by the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Srinagar. A dedicated mobile healthcare team from RRIUM conducts daily visits to Scheduled Tribe-dominated areas in Ganderbal and Srinagar districts, organizing mobile OPDs for patient screening, treatment, and health awareness campaigns. The initiative has covered a population of 38,838 and conducted 138 awareness lectures to date, emphasizing the importance of hygiene and environmental sustainability in daily life.
