World Unani Day is observed on Februrary11 every year. It is celebrated on the birth anniversary of great Unani scholar Hakeem Ajmal Khan. He was the Unani medical educationist and founder of scientific research in Unani System of Medicine.

 Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine, Srinagar organized an inaugural function to announce the countdown and related activities regarding the Unani day. In accordance with that an inaugural programme for above said purpose was conducted at 11.00 am in Avicena Auditorium of RRIUM Srinagar.

The programme was started through recitation of Quran by Dr. Owais (PG Scholar) and naat by Dr urzeeba (PG Scholar). The welcome speech was given by Dr Arsheed Iqbal, he welcomed the chief guest and other participants The purpose, importance and brief introduction of the Unani day was given by Dr Irfat Ara. She appreciated CCRUM in promoting Unani System of Medicine and also announced the countdown and other related activities to be held by the institute.

            The chief guest of the occasion was Prof Bashir Ahmed Ganai, Dean School of Unani& Ayurveda medicine, University of Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion Prof Bashir gave a thoughtful talk on the importance of Unani System of Medicine. Dr sheeraz gave a valuable speech in which he throws light on some life events of Hakim Ajmal Khan. He explained the role of Hakim Ajmal Khan in propagating the Unani System of Medicine and also his key role of research in Unani System of Medicine. Then various officers and scholars of the Institute delivered the speech under the title of “Unani and Unani day”. Then the programme was concluded by vote of thanks By Dr Huma. She thanked all the participants and the chief guest for giving their precious time and making the event successful
