Day 2 of Three-Day Workshop on Bloodletting Procedures
The second day of the Three-Day Workshop on “Bloodletting Procedures (Hijama bi’l Shart, Ta‘liq al-‘Alaq, and Fasd) in Ilaj bi’l Tadbeer” was successfully conducted at Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Srinagar, under the Centre of Excellence (CoE) project funded by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
The day featured an expert lecture on Ta‘liq al-‘Alaq (Leech Therapy) delivered by Prof. Zaffar Hussain, who elaborated on the theoretical foundations, therapeutic indications, mechanism of action, clinical applications, and safety considerations of leech therapy in Unani medicine. The lecture provided valuable insights into both classical Unani literature and contemporary clinical relevance.
Following the lecture, a hands-on training session was conducted at the Ilaj bi’l Tadbeer (IBT) Unit, where participants received practical training in leech application techniques. The session was expertly supervised by Hkm Afsahul Kalam (Research Officer, Unani), Dr. Huma (Research Officer, Unani), and Dr. Asgar (Lecturer, Moalajat). Emphasis was laid on proper leech selection, application methods, aseptic precautions, patient safety, and post-procedure care.
The day concluded with interactive discussions, allowing participants to clarify doubts and strengthen their practical understanding of Ta‘liq al-‘Alaq, thereby further enhancing their clinical skills in Unani regimenal therapy.
The workshop continues to provide a strong blend of theoretical knowledge and skill-based training, contributing to the promotion of standardized and evidence-based practices in Unani medicine.
