On 20 June 2026, the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Srinagar, organised a yoga awareness and practice session at Alpha Public Secondary School with the objective of promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being among students through the adoption of healthy lifestyle practices.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Suheena Khanday, Research Officer (Unani), Dr. Aamir Yousuf, Lecturer, Ilmul Advia, and Dr. Sumera Mehfooz, Research Associate. The session aimed to create awareness regarding the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life as an effective approach to maintaining overall health and preventing lifestyle-related disorders.
During the programme, the coordinators highlighted the complementary role of yoga with the principles of Unani medicine, emphasising the importance of balanced living, regular physical activity, mental relaxation, and holistic health promotion. The participants were informed about the numerous benefits of yoga, including improved flexibility, enhanced concentration, reduced stress and anxiety, better posture, and overall physical fitness.
The session featured demonstrations of various yoga postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), and relaxation techniques, with enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members of the school. The interactive programme encouraged participants to adopt yoga as a regular component of their daily routine to achieve and maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks to the management and staff of Alpha Public Secondary School, Batapora, Srinagar, for their cooperation and support in successfully organising the programme and promoting awareness about the importance of yoga among young students.
