Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Programmes
The Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine, Srinagar, organised an Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) awareness programme on 23 February 2026 at Sumbal Bala village in Ganderbal district under the TSP. The programme aimed to educate the local tribal population about the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance and the responsible use of antibiotics.
During the health camp, Dr Sumera Mehfooz, Research Associate (Unani), sensitized the community about the important role of the Traditional System of Medicine, particularly Unani, in reducing unnecessary antibiotic use through preventive care, lifestyle modification, and evidence-based herbal and compound formulations. The session was attended by postgraduate scholars Dr Sanna and Dr Sumaira Bilal, who actively participated in community interaction and awareness dissemination.
Unani compound medicines were distributed among beneficiaries with proper usage instructions. The programme was well received and helped strengthen community awareness regarding AMR prevention and rational treatment practices.
