The first programme was conducted at RRIUM, Srinagar, where approximately 230 beneficiaries, including patients and their attendants, participated. During the programme, Prof. Arsheed Iqbal, Principal and Research Officer, RRIUM Srinagar, addressed the participants and highlighted the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance and the importance of the rational use of medicines. Dr. Arjumand Shah, Research Officer (Unani), also interacted with the patients and attendants, emphasizing the need to avoid self-medication and misuse of antibiotics. Dr. Adfar Wani and Dr. Sumaira Bilal, PG Scholars, actively participated in the programme by counseling patients and distributing AMR awareness pamphlets.
The second programme was organized in District Ganderbal with the objective of educating and sensitizing the local population about antimicrobial resistance and promoting the responsible use of antimicrobial medicines. A total of 51 patients attended the programme and benefited from the awareness and consultation services provided. Dr. Sumera Mehfooz delivered an informative session on the causes, consequences, and prevention of AMR, emphasizing adherence to prescribed treatment regimens and the importance of seeking medical advice before using antibiotics. Dr. Sanna, PG Scholar, supported the programme by distributing educational pamphlets and interacting with community members to enhance their understanding of AMR and its public health implications.
Both programmes successfully increased awareness regarding antimicrobial resistance and encouraged the responsible use of antimicrobial medicines among the public, thereby contributing to national and global efforts to combat AMR.
