A Three-Day Workshop on “Bloodletting Procedures (Hijama bi’l Shart, Ta‘liq al-‘Alaq, and Fasd) in Ilaj bi’l Tadbeer” was inaugurated on 12 January 2026 at the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Srinagar, under the Centre of Excellence (CoE) project funded by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
The workshop was formally inaugurated by Dr. Irfat Ara, Deputy Director, RRIUM Srinagar, who, in her inaugural address, highlighted the clinical relevance, scientific validation, and the importance of skill-based and evidence-oriented training in Unani regimenal therapies.
Day 1 Proceedings:
The first day commenced with an inaugural lecture on Hijama bi’l Shart delivered by Dr. Arsheed Iqbal, Research Officer (Unani) at the Ibn Sina Auditorium. The lecture covered fundamental principles, therapeutic indications, procedural guidelines, and contemporary clinical and research applications of Hijama bi’l Shart.
This was followed by a hands-on training session at the Ilaj bi’l Tadbeer (IBT) Unit, RRIUM Srinagar, where participants received practical training under expert supervision, with emphasis on proper technique, aseptic precautions, site selection, and standard operating protocols.
The day concluded with an interactive discussion and feedback session, enabling participants to clarify queries and reflect on key learning outcomes, thereby laying a strong foundation for the subsequent days of the workshop.
The workshop aims to enhance practical competencies and promote standardized practices of bloodletting procedures in Unani medicine, with further lecture and training sessions scheduled over the next two days.
