The programme aimed to create awareness among the tribal population regarding the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance and the importance of the rational use of medicines. A total of 52 participants attended the programme and actively participated in the awareness session.
During the programme, Dr. Sumera Mehfooz, Research Associate (Unani), delivered an informative lecture emphasizing the harmful consequences of self-medication and highlighting that medicines, particularly antibiotics, should only be taken on the advice and prescription of a qualified healthcare professional. She explained that the irrational use of medicines contributes significantly to antimicrobial resistance, reducing the effectiveness of treatment and posing a serious public health concern.
Following the awareness session, a health camp was conducted where patients were clinically examined and provided appropriate Unani treatment. Compound Unani medicines were distributed free of cost to the beneficiaries according to their clinical requirements. The programme was well received by the local community and served as an effective initiative to promote responsible medicine use, preventive healthcare practices, and awareness about antimicrobial resistance among the tribal population.
