On 19 June 2026, the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Srinagar, organized an awareness programme in the patient waiting area of the institute to promote the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life.
The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness among patients, attendants, and the general public about the numerous physical, mental, and emotional benefits of regular yoga practice. The initiative highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare and the role of traditional systems of medicine in promoting holistic well-being.
During the programme, Dr. Suheena Khanday, Research Officer (Unani), and Dr. Akram, Research Officer (Unani), jointly delivered an informative lecture emphasizing the significance of integrating yoga into daily routines. They highlighted that regular yoga practice enhances flexibility, strength, posture, and overall physical fitness, while also contributing to stress reduction, improved mental health, and enhanced quality of life.
The speakers elaborated on the growing burden of lifestyle-related disorders, including hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases, and underscored the role of yoga in their prevention and management. They emphasized that incorporating simple yogic practices, breathing exercises, and meditation into everyday life can help individuals achieve better physical and mental well-being.
Dr. Khanday and Dr. Akram further explained that yoga is not merely a form of exercise but a holistic discipline that fosters harmony between the body, mind, and spirit. They also highlighted the complementary role of yoga and Unani medicine in promoting health, preventing disease, and encouraging a balanced lifestyle.
The awareness programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from patients, attendants, and staff members, who actively engaged in the interactive session and expressed keen interest in learning about the practical benefits of yoga.
