An Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Programme was successfully organized on 28 March 2026 at the Outpatient Department (OPD) and waiting area of the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM).
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Shamim Ahmad, Head of the Department of Moalajat. He, along with Dr. Mohd Akram Laeeque, Research Officer (Unani) and Lecturer, Department of Moalajat, sensitized patients and their attendants about the prudent and rational use of antibiotics and the escalating global threat of antimicrobial resistance. The participants were also counselled regarding medication adherence and the potential hazards associated with the misuse and overuse of antimicrobial agents.
Approximately 200 patients and their attendants actively participated in the programme. Informative AMR awareness pamphlets were distributed among them by Dr. Mansha (PG Scholar) and Dr. Hera Tasnim (PG Scholar) to reinforce key messages and promote community awareness.
The programme was well received and proved to be effective in enhancing awareness among the general public regarding antimicrobial resistance and its prevention, thereby contributing to the promotion of rational drug use and public health safety.
